Agility. A primary attribute of both classes, but arguably the primary for hunters. As of right now, there are only three one-handed weapons with an agility of 43 or better:
All of which are raid-content drops, and only two of which a hunter can wield. That sets the baseline for the top-end, agility-based, two-handers at (anyone?...) +86 agility. There are a grand total of seven two-handers out there to potentially benefit hunters that fit this criteria:
- Origin of Nightmares
- Wraith Spear
- The Undeath Carrier
- Black Ice
- Journey's End
- Staff of the Plague Beast
- Staff of Trickery
Of these seven, two are polearms (which, with the advent of druids now being able to use polearms, has further blurred the lines between class-specific weapons). Of those seven, all provide both agility and stamina bonuses. Staff of the Plague Beast and Origin of Nightmares are the only two which provide armor stats.
What does this mean?
It means, kiddies, that you're going to see a lot of hunters running around with staffs - in particular, the Staff of Trickery, since Violet Hold is a ridiculously easy instance that doesn't require 10 or more people to run.
Instead of bitching and whining at the hunters that do roll on staves, take it up with the developers. They are the ones to blame for the latest new weapon competition.

The Orgin of Nightmares and Staff of the Plague Beast are clearly Druid first items, a hunter should only be allowed to roll on them if no druid needs. As for the other staves, Tank > Hunter, if there is a tanking druid that needs one of them he/she should be allowed to have "rights" over a hunter. DPS druids and hunters should have equal rights after that though. That all being said, it's not like it really matters all that much. With the extremely small amount of content availible at the moment, anyone should be able to get any item they want given the proper amount of patience.
Could not agree more on OoN and SotPB, and should have clarified that those staffs really aren't huntard weapons.
From what I have seen, the days of drood tanking seem rather limited. Can I get a confirm/deny?
Deny, Druids are still as good if not better than the other classes in a tanking role. Part of the reason you might not see as many druid tanks is due to the fact Druids can do more than respecable damage now as both Boomkin and kitty DPS. Also only one fight in the Xpac requires more than 2 tanks, so there really isn't as great of a need for tanks as there was, at least not as of yet. (Sarth with 3 drakes practically requires a druid tank due to the large amounts of damage Sarth hits for. A druid tank can get up to 52k health raid buffed and this much health is required to deal with the large damage he produces.)
Thanks, Marc. That's super helpful, considering we have two druids in Frequently Reported, one full time feral and one that swaps between oomkin and feral.
